Wilhelm Freddie was a Danish painter, graphic artist, object artist and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
1930 Freddie introduced surrealismen in Denmark with a painting at Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling (the Artists' Autumn Exhibition). Since the 30s he was the most controversial and prominent representative of this art direction. He experienced being reported to the police for producing “obscene works of art" and even got a penalty for his "pornographic excess”.
Many years after Wilhelm Freddie achieved major recognition, prizes, honors and medals.
